Character: Ru Leilani / Fortress
Series: Original Universe
Canon point: Shortly after Ru introduces Red to his family
CRAU? nah
History: Raised in foster care from a young age, Ru Leilani only started to find stability around nine years old with a very nice foster family. He started to develop superpowers around then, too, which happens in his universe (genetics, mutations, bug bites, dips into radioactive waste, you know the deal) and got himself into some serious trouble when he tried to use them to fight for good while still hardly having any power at all. Through some loopholes, he managed to stay anonymous and eventually used that anonymity to craft the superhero persona Fortress.
Fastforward to Ru at 33 years old. Working as a little league coach and also his home city's lone supered protector, his specialty at defense makes him very effective but not exactly popular for a superhero. Seeing as that leaks into his civilian life, some of his friends set him up on a blind date with a man named Mordred Sylvestris, Red for short. They hit it off and after talking about moving in together, they came to reveal their secrets: not only is Ru a superhero, but Red was a supervillain with an entire city under his control and who only barely plays by the rules. Except... Ru didn't break up with him because morals are complicated and love is even moreso.
Weirdly? It's working out for them as long as they keep business out of the bedroom.

Previous game history:
Personality: As someone whose life is devoted to being good, Ru is a very conscientiously kind and caring person. He dislikes seeing people suffer and is determined to use the power he's been given for a positive net gain to human society. This does not mean he's particularly invested in following the law, where the law would only technically be correct and otherwise may harm someone already suffering just because those are the rules. Very broadly speaking: doing things for oneself and taking responsibility is good, whilst forcing oneself on others and doing harm or otherwise trampling on their personal rights is bad. Those who are bad are punished, corrected or removed from the situation to stop disrupting those who are good. Not exactly the most black and white view for a superhero who supposedly upholds justice rather than the people themselves. Ru understands, however, that operating within the law where appropriate is often the path of least resistance and doesn't try to go against the grain for any reason other than perceived necessity.
Although once he has something in his sights, it's all over. Ru is a determined and stubborn individual who picks a course of action and sticks with it through to the end. Not that he can't be reasoned with or swayed to another option but he doesn't give up once he's gone into action. If Ru is sure he's right about something, no amount of outside pressure will cause him to falter if he doesn't agree with it, to the point of childish refusal to listen. Being true to oneself is incredibly important even if those values should generally be incompatible with a hero; he respects those who have found their purpose and direction, even while he denounces the actions themselves.
His nature as both a person and a hero is someone who holds their ground until the very end. His stubbornness plays into that, but behind that resolve is a mind that looks in many different directions at once. His end goals remain the same, but he isn't above changing tactics to achieve them, and uses a very intuitive and creative mind to go about locating alternate solutions to problems he cannot force his way through. His interest in arts, crafts and creating has helped him learn to let things come to him rather than chase a single idea endlessly.
All of that said, his emotions can be very loud and worn on his sleeve. He works very hard to keep a stoic facade while working as Fortress, but his true thoughts are otherwise hard to hide. When he's happy, he's very happy; when he's sad, it's like rainclouds rolling in; when he's upset, you bet your ass that you'll know it. Only when he's on the job does he see an actual point to restraining himself for the sake of others, while being himself means not lying about how he feels, and instead Ru chooses to use his emotions as catalysts to propel him forward.
He takes his job very seriously; his life, on the other hand, not as much. Ru enjoys meeting people and hanging out, a touch of laziness to his everyday life. As a casual person in general, he's easy to hang out with and rather nonjudgmental of anyone whose life choices don't include hurting others, and people frequently open up to him because of it. Acceptance comes easy to him, but Ru also has to work at being less wishy-washy over mundane things. His kindness can often be mistaken for being a pushover and he's rarely surprised that people would hold this view — most of the time, it just isn't worth the trouble of standing up for himself when he could just as easily help people around him when they ask.
Ru has a not-so-secret love of cute things, often seen in his comfy-casual dress sense and his creative projects. Between drawings, crafts and crochet, he comes up with many different adorable items to decorate his home with or gift to friends and family. Despite all this, he's at a strange in between point in his own life where he would love to dress up even cuter, perhaps even in clothing more intended for feminine frames, but finds himself embarrassed about this interest, since it would likely appear to come out of nowhere to people while he's been nursing the thoughts alone, and ashamed to potentially reveal parts of his scarring where the ugliness is the point but also intensely personal. He identifies as gender neutral/nonbinary, although this doesn't come up in conversation much, and makes his issue about wishing to be freer in appearance become more of a tongue twister than it has to be. Nerves centered on one thing over time tends to make people sensitive about it.
Previous game development:
Skills / abilities: As a knight-class superhero, Ru possesses various skills that later became archetypes known for unpowered soldiers to strive for, due to their incredible hardiness and general use in battle. Their strengths lie in the ability to withhold against tremendous assault and aid their fellows, as well as maintain strong footholds in whatever land they may claim. Knight-class heroes were once very common and litter many stories and fairy tales even though their numbers have dwindled in the coming of modern times, with changing morals and mixing of various heritages creating new and more exciting classes of heroes.
Most notably for knights like Ru, their power comes from holding themselves to a single tenet that they grow up nurturing. Many knights choose things such as "to protect" or "to maintain justice" or "never surrendering" and other lofty goals, while Ru's ideal is something much simpler and based on his own personal ideologies: to be a good person. If these ideals can be maintained and strengthened over the years, a knight-class hero may become stronger over time and eventually evolve into the legendary king-class that's really considered impossible in this day and age. Seeing as the last great king-class hero was Arthur himself, the masses might just be right about that.
Ru possesses all of his skills in either form. However, when he is transformed into Fortress, all of his power is collated inside of himself and becomes notably stronger.
Network sample: What are the clubs like around here? Not the nightlife, alcoholic good times ones — maybe later — but actual... clubs. Activities. There's got to be some, right? Not just for kids, either.
[ He sounds... maybe not his age, but at least an adult, and he doesn't want to sound weird here. Then again: it's another world. Probably a little weird no matter what. ]
Me, I'm looking for clubs that are, like... sports, or crafts, or crochet. Or if they don't exist, guess we could make our own. Whatever. My hands have been too idle lately.
